Terms of Service
Last updated October 2026
Nearpeer is where high school students find college students and recent graduates (“counselors”) to help them with college applications, essays, and tutoring. Students choose who they work with. By using Nearpeer, you agree to these terms.
Before launch
Nearpeer opens to students on November 18th. Until then, counselors can create accounts and profiles, and students can join a waitlist. No sessions happen and no payments are taken before launch.
Who can use Nearpeer
- Counselors must be 18 or older and a current college student or recent graduate.
- Students must be 13 or older. A student under 18 needs a parent or guardian to pay for sessions.
- You must give accurate information and keep your login secure.
Counselors
- Counselors set their own hourly rate. Nearpeer is pay as you go: after each session the counselor logs the time, and the student is charged for exactly that time once it's approved.
- Messages and payments stay on Nearpeer. Sessions happen over a meeting link shared in the thread. Arranging payment outside Nearpeer isn't allowed.
- Counselors agree to the Nearpeer Counselor Agreement before their profile is listed.
- Counselors are independent and are not employees of Nearpeer.
Conduct
Be honest and respectful. No harassment, no misrepresenting your credentials, and no sharing contact details to move work off the platform. We may remove accounts that break these rules.
No guarantees
Counselors share their own experience. Nearpeer doesn't guarantee admission to any school or program.
