This page explains what Nearpeer collects, why, and what we do with it.
What we collect
- Student waitlist: an email address, grade, current school, what you'd like help with, and confirmation that you're 13 or older. Nothing else.
- Counselors: name, personal email, password (stored only as a secure hash), college, graduation year, a college (.edu) email, which we verify with a code, the profile you choose to build, and your signed Counselor Agreement.
- Payments (after launch): the payer's name and email, and a card saved with Stripe. Card numbers are stored by Stripe, never by Nearpeer.
- Basic security data: we use Cloudflare Turnstile and rate limits to stop spam and abuse.
How we use it
- To run your account, confirm counselors' college emails, and process payments for sessions.
- To email you about your account and, for the waitlist, to tell you when Nearpeer opens.
- We don't sell your information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Who processes it
We use service providers to host the site and database (Vercel, Neon), store uploaded files (Vercel Blob), send email (Resend), process payments (Stripe), and block spam (Cloudflare). They process data only to provide those services.
Your choices
You can ask us to update or delete your information at any time by emailing hello@getnearpeer.com. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
Students under 13
Nearpeer isn't for children under 13. Students under 18 need a parent or guardian to pay for sessions; the parent or guardian is a payer only and never sees messages.
